Ever since I was a little girl, I've made up stories. Sometimes I've written them down, sometimes they stayed in my head. When I was at school, though, I thought writers were only very special people. I didn't realise ordinary people like me could become writers.
So the job I chose was to become a journalist - first on newspapers and then on BBC local radio and television. It was a great job, because it was always changing and every day I met new, interesting people. But when I started studying for a PhD in Creative Writing, I realised that what I really wanted to do was tell stories, not real ones, but ones from my imagination.
I've almost finished that PhD and now my big dream is to find a publisher for my children's novel, The Serpent House. I also love teaching writing and journalism skills to others.
